Jesus Dureza, presidential adviser on Mindanao, will meet with key leaders and visit communities in Agusan del Sur and Butuan City starting today as he reaffirms New Zealand’s commitment to work with local stakeholders in advancing peace and development in the region.

KIAMBA, Sarangani— Blessed with a bountiful sea and a fertile land, the village of Datu Dani here, an erstwhile “no man’s land” decades ago, is rebuilding its lost glory.
“Before the war broke between the government and the Moro rebels, life here was basically good. Many capitalists were around that makes our place a bustling business zone,” recalls 52-year-old Abulhasen Udda.

DATU PIANG, Maguindanao – At least 1,830 families displaced by armed conflict in 2008 that have been taking refuge in this town are set to go home to their respective communities, including the 80 families who came from Mamasapano and Shariff Aguak towns following the Ampatuan massacre on November 23 this year.

Question: Being an actor, living in Manila, gaano kalalim ang naintindihan ninyo sa conflict dito sa Mindanao?
Robin Padilla: Napagandang tanong po. Ang kaguluhan po sa Mindanao ay kailangan natin namnamin kung ano ang ugat. Ang kaguluhan po sa Mindanao ay nag-umpisa ng panahong dumating ang mga kastila. Ito po ay panahon pa nung dumating si Magellan, sila Legazpi, at sinundan pa ng maraming mga tao at wala ho tigil yan. Walang tigil ang gulo sa Mindanao.
